Police in Newport Beach say they’ve arrested a man who they believe is responsible for setting two fires in an area along the Pacific Coast Highway earlier this month.

The suspect, who has since been identified as 37-year-old Matthew Brady, was booked into the Newport Jail on suspicion of arson. His bail bonds amount was not immediately clear; it’s also unclear as to whether Brady will face any additional charges.

The fires, according to a report by, were all set using matches.  Authorities have not said how they came to identify Brady as their primary suspect but they have said they don’t believe he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time these crimes were committed.

Anyone who believes they have information that could assist in the investigation of this case is asked to contact the Newport Beach PD.
