Sources within the Newport Beach Police Department have confirmed the NPBD headquarters will soon get a $500,000 renovation.

The contract to revamp the interior of the building was approved by the City Council earlier this month; the last major remodel to the building took place in 1985.

The contract was awarded to TL Veterans Construction Inc. and includes $8,000 for incidentals, $50,200 for contingencies and nearly $497,000 for construction costs.

The project is expected to begin in April, although it’s not immediately clear how long it will take for the renovation to be complete.

It’s not believed that the Newport Beach PD jail facilities will be upgraded as part of the current contract. The Newport Beach Jail is a temporary holding facility that detains pre-trial inmates prior to their arraignment. If a defendant is not released from court, they’ll be transferred to the Orange County Main Jail for more permanent housing.

Newport Beach bail bonds can be posted 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.
