WHAT HAPPENS TO SOMEBODY WHO IS TAKEN TO THE NEWPORT BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT, UNDER ARREST?

They will be “booked in” at this police station.  By this we mean that detailed information is taken about them and they are formally charged with their alleged crime.

The Newport Beach Police also conduct a background check to see if the defendant has any priors — outstanding warrants or a history of committing other crimes.

Finger prints and photos are then taken and the arrestee must hand over their personal items, including clothing to the jailor.  These things will be returned to them if they are bailed out.

CAN THEY CALL ANYONE FOR HELP?

In Orange County, arrestees are allowed to make collect calls to other land lines. Calling cell phones can be hit-or-miss.

They can call a friend or family member and ask them to contact a bail bond agent, or they can call a bondsman directly.

They will be told their bail amount by the jailor and they can also relate this information to the person they call.

HOW CAN I BAIL SOMEONE OUT OF THE NEWPORT BEACH JAIL?

The following information works for the Newport Beach Jail and most jails throughout California.

If you contact a bail bond agency, like Greg Rynerson Bail Bonds, we have experienced and licensed bondsmen who can post what’s called a “surety bond” in Orange County.

Here’s how it works:  Somebody connected to the arrestee, usually a family, friend or an attorney, contacts us.   We get information about the arrestee from them, on line and by calling the jail.

Then we assess the arrestee’s situation. We ask the person calling us if they are going to be co-signing the bond.  If so, we gather personal information about them selves to gage our risk in posting the bond.

We want to make sure that the person co-signing the bond is a responsible party who will see to it that the arrestee goes to court when they are required. Once we are satisfied with this information, we send our caller an application.

HOW MUCH DOES POSTING A BAIL BOND COST?

The legal amount any bail bond company should charge a California customer is a cost-of-service fee that is 10% of the entire bond amount.

For instance, if someone has been arrested and their bail is $30,000 the fee would be $3000.

It is a non refundable fee, but by going through a bail bond company, people won’t have to pay the full amount of the bail.

Many companies also offer payment plans if a client cannot pay the entire percentage fee up front and my company is one of these.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE ARRESTEE DOESN’T MAKE HIS/HER COURT DATE?

If the person does not appear in court in Orange County – or anywhere else in California – the bail bondsman will start looking for that person with the help of local law enforcement.

WHICH BAIL BOND COMPANY IS THE BEST ONE IN NEWPORT BEACH?

If you call a bail bond company and nobody picks up the phone to speak with you, this is good indicator  that they provide poor service.
