Newport Beach PD Says Crime Suppression Team Is Working

A spokesperson for the Newport Beach Police Department said a recently recreated Crime Suppression Unit is getting the job done.

The city is already known for being among the safest in Orange County, they said, but that’s not to say more can’t be done to take a bite out of crime.  The area is especially attractive to criminals who are wanting to commit property crimes and the NBPD wants to be proactive in preventing break-ins before they happen.

Authorities say the recreation of the CSU is partly related to the California inmate realignment.  A number of inmates throughout Southern California are being released before their sentences are up.  A great deal of other pretrial inmates are being let out of jail on their own recognizance because there just isn’t room to hold them.

The unit has helped make a number of arrests since they were formed, according to a spokesperson, and those taken into custody were booked at the Newport Beach Jail where they will be held until they can post bail bonds.

Newport Beach PD Calls National Night Out A Success

August 11, 2014 Comments Off on Newport Beach PD Calls National Night Out A Success posted by: Bail Expert

It’s been about a week since members of the Newport Beach Police Department hosted this year’s National Night Out event, and officers have called it a resounding success.

Hotdogs and hamburgers were donated by the fire department, and other foods were donated by local shopkeepers.

There were also countless activities available for children, including meet and greets with various people within the department.

A spokesperson for the Newport Beach PD has said that National Night Out is a great way for the community to come together, to learn more about local law enforcement and to better acquaint themselves with their neighbors.

Officers within the mounted patrol even brought their horses out so the public could pet and interact with the animals.  SWAT team members were also on hand with various pieces of safety equipment and took the time to answer questions about how things worked and how each device is used to keep them safe.

Next year’s event will take place on the first Tuesday in August.

Crime Suspects Booked Into Newport Beach Jail

June 20, 2014 Comments Off on Crime Suspects Booked Into Newport Beach Jail posted by: Bail Expert

Local police officers have been quite busy in the past several weeks and are pleased to say they’ve captured a handful of bad guys along the way.

All of those suspects, they said, were booked into the Newport Beach Jail where they were held pending bail bonds.

In the first incident, more than $5,000 worth of bicycles were stolen from a location on Avacado Avenue.  Bike thefts are increasingly popular this time a year, according to law enforcement officials, to the extent that some agencies have started to use “decoy bikes” that have been outfitted with GPS devices as a way to get bike thieves off the streets.

San Diego and San Francisco currently have a decoy bike program but it’s unclear if the Newport Beach PD will be following their lead.

In a second incident, a pickpocket managed to get away with someone’s wallet.  The whereabouts of the wallet, the $650 that was in it and the person responsible for the crime have yet to be learned.

And lastly, two men were arrested on disorderly conduct charges and were taken to the Newport Beach Jail.  Although the first man is believed to have been intoxicated, the second suspect may have been sober.  Both managed to post $500 bail and are due to appear in court within the next month.
