Newport Beach PD Question People In Theater Scare

August 19, 2015 Comments Off on Newport Beach PD Question People In Theater Scare posted by: Bail Expert

A recent scare at a local movie theater that left dozens scared after intruders busted in and turned on a leaf blower has caught the attention of the Newport Beach Police Department.

According to a report by the Orange County Register, police have questioned three minors and one adult; frightened moviegoers said they thought the sound was a chainsaw.   Everyone made a run for the exits, police said, and three people sustained minor injuries.

Investigators said the person with the leaf blower may have been let in by someone who was already inside the theater, who may have assisted the entry by opening up an exit door to the outside.

Four persons of interest were questioned late last week.  Officers said they have video footage of them from earlier that same evening that shows them holding the leaf blower at a local fast food restaurant.

Investigators say the persons of interest are cooperating fully.

Newport Beach PD Crack Down On Seat Belt Laws

May 18, 2015 Comments Off on Newport Beach PD Crack Down On Seat Belt Laws posted by: Bail Expert

Representatives from the Newport Beach Police Department have confirmed that officers will be on the lookout for drivers and passengers who are failing to comply with CA seat belt laws.

The crackdown will take place during the last two weeks of may, they said, noting that people can either click it or receive a ticket.

Wearing a seat belt greatly reduces the risk of being seriously injured during an accident. In 2013, approximately 21,000 people nationwide died in vehicle accidents because they were not wearing one at the time the collisions took place.

Buckling up saves lives, police said, and the NBPD is going to be diligent when it comes to ticketing people who aren’t obeying the law.

Officers said they will be taking a zero-tolerance, no-excuses approach to their ticket writing.  Citation fees start at $161 for a first time offender and go up from there.  If a child under the age of 16 isn’t wearing a seat belt, they said, the fine starts at $490.

Three Booked At Newport Beach Jail

April 13, 2015 Comments Off on Three Booked At Newport Beach Jail posted by: Bail Expert

Two men found themselves in need of Newport Beach Jail bail bonds recently; a third suspect was booked into the local lock up but he was released on his own recognizance.

The latter suspect was taken into custody during the first week in April on burglary charges.  Jail officials said he remained in custody until his first court appearance, when the judge decided the 24 year-old man would not need to hire a bondsman in Newport Beach in order to be released.

A second man in his early 20s was also arrested by the Newport Beach Police Department, according to officials, after he was found to be in violation of the terms of his probation.  His jail bonds amount was not immediately known, but he may have had a no-bail hold until he went to court.

The final suspect was booked on a series of felony charges and may have needed to post bail bonds for criminal threats, vandalism bail bonds and bail bonds for driving without a license.

It’s unclear if he is still in custody.

Newport PD: Valet Gave Couple’s Car Away By Accident

March 16, 2015 Comments Off on Newport PD: Valet Gave Couple’s Car Away By Accident posted by: Bail Expert

A spokesperson for the Newport Beach Police Department have confirmed that a local restaurant is coming under fire after a contract valet employee gave a couple’s car away to the wrong person.

The person who claimed the vehicle never presented a ticket, they said, and the restaurant is trying to figure out how the faux-pas happened.

When the owners of the Mazda CX-9 finished their meal, they walked outside and gave one of the workers their ticket stub; the employee returned a few moments later to say someone else had already given the keys to another party.

The couple initially thought they were on a hidden-camera reality show, they said, but quickly learned that was not the case.  They were later told the vehicle was given to an drunk man who had a Ohio State University tattoo.

The restaurant is claiming they’re not responsible for the flub, and has instead pointed the finger at the valet company.  The vehicle owners, though, say that company told them to report the loss to their insurance company.

Anyone who thinks they may have information that could lead to the capture and/or arrest of the suspect is asked to call the Newport Beach PD.

Burglary, Car Theft Suspect Booked At Newport Beach Jail

February 13, 2015 Comments Off on Burglary, Car Theft Suspect Booked At Newport Beach Jail posted by: Bail Expert

Sources within the NBPD have confirmed a Fullerton man was arrested and booked at the Newport Beach Jail earlier this week after breaking into a local home and stealing the residents’ car.

The homeowners were at home during the time of the break-in, they said, which classified the crime as being a hot prowl.   It’s believed the 32 year-old suspect gained entry to the residence through a basement window befor walking up to the kitchen, making off with a set of car keys and then stealing the vehicle, which had been parked outside.

Representatives from the Newport Beach Police Department say nothing else was stolen during the crime.

The suspect was captured several days later and has been booked on grand theft auto charges.  Prosecutors say it is likely the man will also be charged with residential burglary.

Police officials say that all of the items in the stolen vehicle have since been recovered, although an iPhone has yet to be located.

Bail bonds information for the suspect was not immediately available.

Newport Beach Police Department Welcomes New Officer

January 14, 2015 Comments Off on Newport Beach Police Department Welcomes New Officer posted by: Bail Expert

Representatives from the Newport Beach Police Department said they are pleased to welcome a new officer to its ranks.  Seven other NBPD employees have also received promotions, they said.

A total of 150 people packed the Civic Center last week as part of a welcoming ceremony.  Friends and family members of the eight officers were among the attendees.  Elected officials, former NBPD chiefs and officials from the fire department were also in attendance.

One officer was reportedly promoted from lieutenant to deputy chief.  The selection process was not easy, they said, and the applicants needed to undergo several rounds of interviews with community members, a panel of city staff and police chiefs from other neighboring cities.

All of the promoted officers have extensive law enforcement experience; at least one is a USMC veteran.

The officers have said that the NBPD is a great department to work for and they enjoy being able to serve the city, its residents and those who visit the area.

Newport Beach PD Tip-a-Cop Raises $10,000

November 14, 2014 Comments Off on Newport Beach PD Tip-a-Cop Raises $10,000 posted by: Bail Expert

A recent fundraiser held by the Newport Beach Police Department has raised more than $10,000 for the Special Olympics.

The annual event took place earlier this week, according to a NBPD spokesperson, as officers took over the serving and hosting detail at a popular local restaurant.

All tips collected go toward funding the Orange County Special Olympics.  The next Special Olympics event on calender is taking place in July, when more than 7,000 disabled athletes will participate in the ‘World Games’ in Los Angeles.

The Newport Beach PD says they are happy to have been able to connect with community members, log some volunteer hours and raise so much money for such a worthy cause.

Tip a Cop events take place throughout the county, according to sources, although few, if any areas have been able to raise as much money in a single night as the NBPD has.

Those who were unable to attend but would still like to donate can do so online.
